The 4th edition of the VAGABUNDAS – Mercedes Blasco Artistic Residencies program, promoted by Companhia Cepa Torta, in co-production with the Mértola City Council and in partnership with the Serrão Martins Foundation and Rua das Gaivotas 6, has ended.

Throughout the month of April, artists Maria Antunes and Rita Westwood were in artistic residence at Mina de S. Domingos, developing the projects “NINFA” and “pranto. descanso. lamento. descanso” , in dialogue with the territory, its memory and the local community.

The Open Days , held on May 3rd at Mina de S. Domingos and on May 9th at Rua das Gaivotas 6, in Lisbon, marked the closing of this edition and allowed participants to share with the public the creative processes developed during the residency.

In Lisbon, the final presentation was held in a packed house and was followed by an open conversation with the audience, which included the project's artistic directors — Inês Achando and Miguel Maia — and the guest judges for this edition, Catarina Requeijo and Laura Lopes . The conversation reflected on artistic creation by women, decentralized practices, and the challenges of creating in dialogue with territories far from major cultural centers.

We come to the end of this edition with immense gratitude.

To the artists Maria Antunes and Rita Westwood , for their dedication, generosity, and artistic courage.

To the community of Mina de S. Domingos , for the warm welcome and the sharing throughout the entire residency.

To the Mértola Municipal Council , for the co-production and continued support of the project.

To the Serrão Martins Foundation and Rua das Gaivotas 6 , for their fundamental partnership in making this edition a reality.

And to the entire team at Companhia Cepa Torta , whose work made another edition of the program possible.

The next VAGABUNDAS Open Call will take place in February 2027. We hope to receive new proposals again and continue to create space for artistic creation by women in decentralized territories.
