GUEST STRUCTURE - "MIDDLE CHILD"
This year's program is completed by the invited structure Filho do Meio, which since 2016 has been dedicated to the research and dissemination of Shakespeare's works to the Portuguese public, with the main objective of making them accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of knowledge, familiarity or interest in the works.
With the cycle “Três Comédias, Três Tragédias”, through which staged readings, workshops, shows and tours are planned, a heritage of thought and a language common to the company and the public are built._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_
This is how the company has affirmed its identity: Twelfth Night in 2017, A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2018, Much Ado About Nothing in 2019, Hamlet in 2020 (the first show of the cycle that benefited from the support of the GDA Foundation and Fundação Gulbenkian) and Romeu & Julieta in 2021. In 2022, the company received the Carlos Avilez Theater Award, from the Mirpuri Foundation, for its six years of work.
The company's work, which has been received and followed with manifest interest, operates in a certainty that will never be surpassed - that the classic texts bring together a timeless knowledge of Humanity and that the availability to receive them does not depend on the level of education, but yes, the artist's ability to adapt to whoever receives them.
This creative, emerging and dynamic model of presenting repertoire theater, created through both face-to-face and virtual work, allows us to capture new and different audiences, arousing curiosity about their own senses and conquering the richness of their imagination.
Artists learn to trust language, and audiences, in turn, enjoy the pleasure of discovering why Shakespeare has become an inescapable theatrical classic.
To This Night Screams, bring Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, under the artistic direction of Luís Moreira.
From the 28th to the 30th of October, at the Palácio Galveias, Alcântara and Marvila Libraries.
In 2022 Luís Moreira, director and founder of the company Filho do Meio received the Carlos Avilez Theater Award from the Mirpuri Foundation. know more here
NEW DRAMATURGY AWARD BY FEMALE AUTHOR
About the Prize
According to the International Center for Women Playwrights, an NGO dedicated to encouraging the work of women playwrights, 70% of the plays produced annually in the world are by men. In the edition of works, the number drops even further - in Portugal we estimate that less than 15% of edited texts are by women. This panorama in no way favors the diversity and richness of artistic production, preventing the innovation brought by the female gaze of creators who, without adequate stimulation, continue to be removed from the circuits necessary for the dissemination of their works. In the artistic direction of Esta Noite Slam-se, we have had difficulties in balancing the authorial genre because the options to choose from are very limited when it comes to playwrights. Only by encouraging creation will it be possible to change this reality and ensure that more women artists take risks and publish their work.
The New Dramaturgy Award for Female Authors is aimed at authors with or without published or publicly presented works, and will annually award an unpublished text. EatsThis award is intended to promote, recognize and disseminate female dramaturgy in Portuguese.
The 2nd Edition
Between July and September, the 3 finalist authors selected from more than 120 texts had the opportunity to to discuss and work on the works presented with the accompaniment of one of the members of the jury, which in this second edition was constituted by : Patrícia Portela, Joana Craveiro and Francisco Frazão.
Find out who the finalists are here.
The winning work will be announced on the dayoctober 1 and will result in a prize of €750 for the author, will be included in the program of Esta noite screams, with public reading on December 3rd and 4th at Teatro Nacional D.Maria II and published in book, thanks to the partnership with the publisher Douda Run.
From the 1st of January to the 31st of March 2022, applications were open for the 2nd edition of the New Dramaturgy Award for Female Authors, by Esta noite screamed / Companhia Cepa Torta, in partnership with the publisher Douda Correria.
