Antigone has already been arrested. The guards have already locked her in the cave. The show would end here if it weren't for a paper flower.

Can a bird sing a happy and yet melancholic melody? Can a stone shine in the sun and yet remain as cold as ice? Can a room full of people be both silent and noisy? And a mirror? Can it show our reflection and yet show what is behind it? This may all be confusing. But how do we know for sure that something is really a thing, so that we can make a decision? We look at it and say, 'It has the shape of a thing and makes the sound of a thing'.

and we decided to tell everyone: 'it's a thing!'. But is it really like that?

Let's go to a strange city where King Creon's guards live. They were the ones who arrested Antigone, the one who decided to defy the king's law, because they thought it was unfair. And fulfilling a mission impeccably always whets the appetite, we must celebrate! But... celebrate what, exactly? In this city, nothing is what it seems, and everything is exactly what it seems to be. Music is in the air, but not everyone hears it, the streets lead everywhere and nowhere.

This is where this group of guards will embark on a new mission - after finding a strange object they will embark, without clear orders or rules, on a strange and troubled journey of no return - straight to the center of their hearts.

Do you find it confusing? Good, it means you're ready to go in.

In this theatrical performance about the act of thinking and making decisions, Miguel Maia invents a new destiny for Creon's guards, drawing on the work of Hannah Arendt, the seminal 'The Courage to Choose' by philosopher Fernando Savater and the singular vision of Antigone, in the version by Jean Anouilh.

In a show full of comedy, the best questions are sought more than the best answers. On stage there are five performers and a sound system - the scenery is suggested, rather than constructed, and everything happens before our eyes.

There is the artifice of theater. There is the artifice of life.
