SEASON 2026

2026 is the year of the new Community Show.

at the São Domingos Mine

MALACATE was a multidisciplinary artistic intervention project created specifically for the São Domingos Mine, funded by the EEA Grants fund and with the support of the Mértola Municipal Council, which took place between 2021 and 2023, and whose driving force was contemporary artistic work that arises from the encounter between locals and a community of artists, supported by a process of community mediation.

This project, which has increasingly mobilized the entire community around contemporary community-based artistic creation, returns in 2026, at the invitation of the Municipality of Mértola, for a new season that will take place between April and June, marked by new activities, included in a renewed MALACATE.

This program also includes the VAGABUNDAS project – Mercedes Blasco Artistic Residencies , which in 2026 will host two new artists in residence at the São Domingos Mine during the month of April, continuing the work of creation, experimentation and connection to the territory that characterizes the project.

On June 14, 2025, the Cineteatro da Mina de S. Domingos hosted the public presentation of the three proposals developed within the scope of the MALACATE Artistic Residency. A remarkable moment, reflecting the work of listening, sharing, and creation experienced during two intense weeks in Mina.

Following this meeting, the MALACATE Council — a community curatorial group — met to decide which of the proposals would continue the journey begun. The choice fell on the MEIO DO MATO structure, which, throughout 2026, will return to the Mina de S. Domingos to develop a community-based performance in close collaboration with the territory and its people.

CALOR - COMMUNITY SPECTACLE

In the São Domingos mine, the warmth doesn't just come from the earth or the sun. It's also felt in the darkness, in the resilience, in people's daily lives, at the table, in stories and in affection.

CALOR is a show created by MEIO DO MATO , with and for the community of Mina de S. Domingos, which invites the public to traverse the place and experience it as a living, affective and shared matter.

Unlike conventional performances, this show proposes an itinerant and close-knit dynamic throughout the territory of the São Domingos Mine, so the public is asked to pay attention to the following logistical specifications:

Dates - June 11, 12 and 13, 2026

Start Time - 8:30 PM (early arrival is recommended)

Meeting Point - Rua S. Pedro, nº 16 — next to the old Francisco Romba Mini Market (Start of the route)

Recommended Parking - Paid Old (starting point)
