Malacate Artistic Residency
This year, the MALACATE Project invites three artistic structures — CAMA, MEIO DO MATO and OCRE — for a two-week residency at Mina de S. Domingos, between June 1 and 14. During this period, each structure will develop an artistic proposal inspired by the territory and its people, in a process that integrates not only research and creation, but also the active involvement of the local community.
The residency begins with the Artists’ Reception Program (June 2-4), a series of activities that allow visiting teams to get to know the Mine through shared experiences with local residents and partners. At the end of the residency, on June 14, the public presentation of the developed proposals will be made.
It will be the community of Mina de S. Domingos itself that will choose which of these proposals will give rise to the community show MALACATE 2026, reaffirming the centrality of collective participation at the heart of this project.

MEIO DO MATO WAS THE STRUCTURE SELECTED FOR THE 2026 COMMUNITY CREATION
On June 14, the Cineteatro da Mina de S. Domingos hosted the public presentation of the three proposals developed. This symbolic moment was followed by the decision of the MALACATE Council — a community curation group — which chose the MEIO DO MATO structure proposal to be further developed and explored throughout 2026, in collaboration with the community.
