Written in 1884, The Wild Duck is one of the most impressive plays written by the Norwegian playwright. A text of high allegorical value, it uses as its basis the story of the wild duck who, when he sees himself injured, dives into the lake and clings to the algae in the depths to die, avoiding surviving injured. It shows us a complex web of relationships between two families, and the shadow that an unresolved past casts over multifaceted characters, profound and masterfully guided through the scenes in an emotional crescendo. Ibsen masterfully explores the theme of truth and lies and how it is used in the intimate sphere. In fact, this is where the main tragic element lies: the consequences of living in a lie, or the problems of the fundamentalism of absolute truth - both can have, after all, disastrous consequences.
